Party treasurer steps down

MONDAY, March 8 was a significant day for the North Antrim D.U.P. Association as it saw the selection of a new Westminster candidate in Ian Paisley Junior.

It also saw that, for the first time in forty years, Ian Paisley Senior would not be putting his name forward for selection to his proudly long held seat.

It was, however, a matter of mixed emotions for local councillor Ian Stevenson because the meeting was not only to select a Westminster candidate for North Antrim, but was also the Association's Annual General Meeting.

It was here that his mother, Mrs Marian Stevenson, decided to step down from her role as treasurer for North Antrim, a position she had filled for the previous twenty three years.

Mrs. Stevenson had decided prior to the meeting to relinquish her role and to hand over the reins to new blood and felt this was the most fitting time.

In all this time she has been strongly supportive of the party and of its current position in negotiating a good deal for Unionism and for Northern Ireland as a whole and will be working in the time ahead to help Ian Paisley Junior in the ongoing election campaign to retain North Antrim for the D.U.P.

While he stated that he was sad that she had decided to step down, Councillor Stevenson expressed his pride in her achievement and gratefulness to those who expressed sentiments of esteem and wished her well.
