Passengers stranded on train for 90 mins

Early morning commuters were stranded on a train for over 90 minutes today - just minutes from Portadown station.Passengers travelling on the 7:20am service from Portadown to Belfast experienced a manic start to their Monday morning after their train experienced a '˜mechanical failure'.

A Translink spokesperson explained that the train had ‘experienced a mechanical failure just ouside Portadown’, adding that a bus service had been put in place:

“Bus substitution services were put in place between Portadown, Lurgan, Moira and Lisburn. Valid train tickets were also accepted on scheduled bus services, however, delays for passengers were inevitable.”

Despite several passengers taking to Twitter to complain that they had been ‘stuck onboard for 90 minutes on a freezing cold train’, others noted that staff had been ‘continually updating’ passengers as the situation unfolded.

Engineers were immediately sent to invesigate the incident and have been working hard to get the issue resolved,” said the Translink spokesperson. “The train has now been moved into Poradown train station for further investigation and the passengers on board have been transferred to another train to complete their journey.

“We kept passengers updated using Twitter @Translink_NI and latest travel updates on our website, as well as through the contact centre and local media.
“We appreciate the inconvenience and disruption this incident has caused and would apologise to all our passengers involved.”
