Mr Mitchell said that hundreds of people attended the funeral at the church with many attending - obeying a request from Linsey - that no-one was to wear black ties.

“It is only the past two to three months that I got to know Linsey but she is someone that has left a lasting impression on me - something that few people will ever do,” Mr Mitchell said.

“She was a very honest, straight and brave woman who never once complained of her illness. She had great determination and never gave up. She was a true inspiration.

“She was also very competitive. While in a wheelchair - in the midst of her illness - she beat the Wallace team in an archery event. She totally hammered them.”

She is survived by husband David and 11 year old daughter, Maddison.
