Pastor’s Pen: Deal or no deal? It’s your own choice

Do you ever watch the programme ‘Deal or no Deal’?

It features people trying to make deals to win lots of money. However, everything they do is by chance, a gamble if you like. On a rare occasion someone wins big, but most go away with little or nothing and people will say, ‘Oh, bad luck’.

By definition ‘luck’ is a combination of circumstances that operate by chance to bring good or ill to a person. When life is sweet some say it’s good luck, but when life is bitter it’s bad luck. All gambling games are games of chance, you might win or you might lose - good or bad luck some might say.

One thing you must not leave to chance is the destination of your eternal soul. To do nothing is itself taking a chance that you might get to heaven or you might not. Are you gambling with your eternal future?

With God you can be sure that nothing is ever left to or done by chance. God has a plan for all of mankind, and more especially - for you.

He revealed His plan on Good Friday when Jesus died on the cross and on the first Easter morning when He rose from the dead.

God did not say let’s make a deal. God said: “Here is the deal. I left nothing to chance. I sent Jesus, my Son, into the world to save you from your sins, so that you could have everlasting life.” That was and is the deal. John 3:16 says: “For God so loved that he gave his only begotten son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have everlasting life.”

Just like the TV’s ‘Deal or no Deal’ contestants, you alone make the choice. The difference is, they might win or they might not, it’s a gamble, it’s a chance. You on the other hand, if you accept God’s deal, will be sure to win.

God is asking you today, Deal or no Deal? No deal will win you ‘nothing’ but eternal death, but accepting the deal you are guaranteed joy and happiness beyond your wildest dreams. Deal or no Deal?
