Pastor’s Pen: God transfers us from darkness into His glorious light

From early morning they waited for any breaking news of football transfers, so that the news could be televised quickly across the country. It was the final day of what has now become known by the media as ‘Transfer Deadline Day.’

By the end of the transfer window, the amount of money spent on football transfers runs into many millions of pounds. Excited reporters, surrounded by cheering football fans, are the first to announce deals being done between the clubs.

Transfers are important as clubs spend to strengthen their squads to try and avoid relegation or challenge for titles. It’s amazing how the transfer of a player from one club to another can cost such vast sums of money and cause such frenzy among the waiting media and football world.

This word “transfer” is important. Although the vast majority of us are never going to be part of big money football transfers, we are involved in making other kinds of transfers in life. We make money transfers from one bank account to another for practical purposes. At the age of 11 our young people are transferred from primary school to secondary school. Tests are taken to decide what kind of school a young person is best suited to and the transfer take place.

Did you know that Almighty God is involved in His own transfer business? The Lord did something utterly amazing when He made sinful people like us His transfer targets. He went to amazing lengths in order that unworthy and sinful human beings could be transferred out of darkness into His wonderful light. The transfer price was paid in full by His own Son, Jesus Christ, who died for us on the cross.

The Bible says: “He has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the Kingdom of His beloved Son, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.”

This is without doubt the greatest and most important transfer that can happen to anyone, and it is open to all who put their trust in Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour.
