Life is crammed full of journeys we make in the course of our lives. Some are mere routine journeys, while others can be a surprise holiday which someone has secretly planned for you. Recently, my sister-in-law enjoyed the unexpected trip of a lifetime to Australia, which was a gift from her friend who won a prize holiday competition for two. Now that is a true friend!

However, most of our journeys are dependent on our cars.

Long car journeys can become tedious for small children sitting in the back, bored by what seems to take a ‘lifetime’. Matters are not helped if you miss your slip road on the motorway and then realise it will be many miles before you can exit, turn around, and then head back in the right direction.

The Bible has a great deal to say about journeys. In fact, it’s full of some amazing stories of journeys where God’s people set out trusting Him for safety and guidance each step of the way. Yet not every journey ended well.

The children of Israel were travelling a relatively short distance after their deliverance from Egypt on the way to the Promised Land, but it ended up taking 40 years. They took a lot of wrong turns along the way and stopped following God’s directions.

Don’t make the same mistake! Coming to the Cross of Jesus in repentance and faith is the start of a new journey with God.

I like to think of it as the adventure of faith, because you never know where Christ may lead you. Psalm 16: 11 says: “You have made known to me the path of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence; with eternal pleasures at your right hand.”

When you begin this journey with God, keep obeying his instructions and it will lead to a life of joy and peace.
