Fast forward to 2015 and the Dundrum joker is one of the hottest comedy tickets around and he’s headed to the Burnavon in Cookstown on Saturday 6 June.

Kielty, who started his stand-up career at the Empire in Belfast, is excited about his Cookstown appearance.

“I’ve played loads of gigs there and it’s brilliant that they now have their own comedy festival”, Kielty continued. “When I was starting out, to even have a comedy club was a big deal so it’s great that there are so many fantastic theatres around the country. I remember playing in a nightclub in Cookstown and it was, let’s just say, a wee bit rowdier than the theatre!”

Kielty also learned a useful lesson as a performer when an old man in a pub outside Cookstown asked for the microphone: “Never give a heckler the microphone!”

Tickets for the Burnavon are available from the Box Office on 8676 9949 or www.burnavon.com. Kielty also plays the Market Place Theatre Armagh on 18 June.
