Patrick to run the New York Marathon

CRAIGAVON man Patrick Reynolds is gearing up to run next month’s New York City Marathon.

Patrick, who owns Chef’s Direct in Victoria Street, is taking on the challenge in a bid to raise money for the Southern Area Hospice.

Although he has already reached his target of £3,200, he is hoping to raise more funds for the charity.

Patrick’s uncle Mick Toman, who lived in Grattan Street, was cared for in the Newry Hospice shortly before he died.

“The staff were brilliant to him,” said Patrick.

“The treatment he received there was second to none, so I’m proud to be helping them.”

The marathon in New York will take place on November 6.

He continued: “I’m very excited about it. This is my third marathon, but because it’s in New York it’s going to be something else.

“I ran the Belfast marathon earlier this year, so I have a certain amount of experience.

“There are a lot of bridges in New York, and that will present a challenge.

“I will also be running on concrete over there as opposed to tarmac. It’s said that it’s a lot harder on your muscles.”

Patrick is holding a coffee morning this Saturday (October 15) in the new Brownlow Community Hub from 10am to 12pm.
