Paul Mullan is new North Coast Integrated College principal

Mr Mullan has more than thirty years’ teaching experience, and takes up the reigns from predecessor, Mr. Jim Frizelle.

Mr. Mullan previously held the post of Pastoral Vice Principal at the College, a role he enjoyed for the last ten years.

Speaking about his new role, the North Coast Integrated Principal said: “I am delighted to have been given the opportunity to lead NCIC at such an exciting and challenging time in education.

“In my new role I will be totally focused on making sure that NCIC continues to be viewed as the school of choice for students both at year 8 and Post 16. We can provide all pupils with the choice of completing their educational journey, from ages 11-18, with us. We offer a curriculum which allows more able pupils to have the same opportunities, and to achieve the same qualifications, that would be available to them at a grammar school.

“We also have more computers per pupil than any other school in the Coleraine area.

“We embrace change and use ICT in lessons to enthuse, excite and engage pupils with their learning. We are delighted with the progress of past pupils who have all left to take up various positions in paid employment as well as the many who continue to third level education. We can even include Olympic medal winners on our roll of honour!”

Mr. Mullan reflected on the findings of the recent follow up inspection at the College, he explained: “The Education and Training Inspectorate has confirmed that NCIC is a good school, and one which is continually working to raise standards.

“In fact, North Coast Integrated College is the best performing controlled school in the local area. This is evident from our results which

are improving year on year. In 2014, 74% of pupils achieved 5 or more GCSEs, and equivalents, at grades A* - C which is well above average for similar schools. Each pupil can depend on the good quality of learning and teaching taking place in each and every classroom.”

He added, “the Inspectorate highlighted other particular strengths which include Leadership, Pastoral Care and Careers Education. All of these strengths marry together to raise ‘the levels of confidence, engagement and behaviour amongst the students’ [Education and Training Inspectorate.
