PayPal fund set up for injured Larne player Irvine

Saturday’s Irish Cup tie between Larne and Carrick Rangers at Inver Park was abandoned after Irvine crashed into a wall in the 28th minute.

The freak incident left the 30-year-old midfielder with serious head injuries and he was taken to the Royal Victoria Hospital for treatment. It is understood he suffered fractures to his face and skull, but his condition has been described as “stable” by the Belfast Health Trust.

In the wake of the incident, the local footballing community has been united in its support for the stricken player.

And in a generous gesture, both Larne FC and Carrick Rangers have agreed that the rearranged cup tie will take place on Tuesday, January 20, with all gate receipts being donated to Irvine and his family. The clubs announced there will be a £5 entry fee and free concession admissions for the replay.

Larne boss Davy McAlinden said he had been “overwhelmed by the response from the local footballing family”.

He added: “We have been inundated on social media by people who wish to make a donation to Scott, but who will be unable to attend the replay. A PayPal account has now been set up under my name which will allow people to donate the entry fee for the match. It can be found under the email address [email protected]”
