PCSP calling '˜Last Orders' in new play

The staging of the drama is funded through Causeway Coast and Glens Policing and Community Safety Partnership.

The initiative, which also includes workshops, is targeted at year 10 pupils.

It also explores the consequences and impact of risk-taking behaviours.

The educational and preventative programme aims to help pupils explore consequences and legalities as well as looking at the physical, mental and emotional impacts of such behaviours.

Commenting on the project, PCSP Chair Alderman William King said: “PCSP is delighted to offer this initiative to post-primary schools and FE colleges across the council area and the level of interest, again this year, has been high”.

Developed by a team of doctors, NSPCC professionals and teachers, “Last Orders” is a professional and specialist theatre company production telling the story of three teenagers embarking on an alcohol fuelled night out and exploring the disastrous consequences.

Based on true events, the play is written in a hard-hitting yet humorous style. Following the performance, an interactive workshop involving cast in-character improvisation allows students to explore the themes of anti-social behaviour, illegal purchase, cyber safety and attitudes to risk.

Alderman King continued: “This initiative provides a unique opportunity for young people to explore risk-taking behaviours and potential consequences particularly around alcohol misuse.”

Performances took place over a two week period, ending on Alcohol Awareness Week.
