Mrs Evans, 69 was found beaten at her home in the seaside town on June 4 last year.

Evans, who also faces a charge of possession of a class ‘B’ drug with intent to supply, had previously been an inpatient at Knockbracken Hospital in Belfast, however he was moved to Magheraberry Prison in December when the Mental Health Order detaining him expired.

During Monday’s short hearing, the court heard that the Directing Officer has listed a mid May date for a PE, however, a spokesperson for the PPS revealed that a date in late May would be ‘more realistic’.

District Judge Liam McNally set a PE date for June 1.

Evans was remanded for a further four weeks in custody.

He will appear again via video link on May 18.
