Peace Bridge opening cost£260k in total

THE people of Northern Ireland forked out a whopping £263k on the opening the Londonderry Peace Bridge last year.

Stewarding provided by Estate Services cost the people of the province £30k; whilst the entertainment provided by the D Doherty Civic Choir (£1,250); Codetta Civic Choir (£1,000); the City of Derry Civic Choir (£6,050) and Artfrique ((£2,350) together cost over £10k.

Taxpayers also forked out nearly £25k for tents provided by a company from the richest part of Northern Ireland (North Down Marquees).

Posters, brochures, and other design services were provided by CDS Design Services for the day and cost £15,944.27 whilst a fireworks display put on by Pains Fireworks came to £25k.

The total bill of £263,410.14 was made up by a range of other costs including: £1,626 for a River Activity Manager; £2,855 for Safety Cover by Foyle Search and Rescue; £840 for AA Road Signs; £29,208 for Unit 7 PA/AV services; £43,632 for the Programme of Events; £5,461.20 for the Event Management Team; £500 for BBC broadcaster Teresa Craig who acted as Master of Ceremonies; £5,854.80 for Corish for Video Production Services; £444 for Big Fish Poster Reprint; £13,248 for Yellow Door catering; and £30,188.99 for Event Management Fees

The expenditure was revealed by the Office of first Minister and Deputy First Minister (OFMDFM) in response to an Assembly Question from SDLP MLA Pat Ramsey.

Construction of the bridge commenced in January 2010 and it was officially opened on June 25, 2011.

Last month the Sentinel revealed the total bill for the opening of Ebrington Square on St Valentine’s Day was £150k with £14,580 forked out on performers, £19k on production equipment and £10k on security.

OFMDFM revealed the cost of performers for that event - including Bronagh Gallagher, Codetta, Future Chaser, Inishowen Gospel Choir and The Wonder Villains - was £12,150 plus £2,430 in VAT.

It was also revealed that ILEX spent £20k on project management, £8,400 on design and print and £3,600 on welcome tea and coffee for the public.

OFMDFM provided the £149,108 expenditure breakdown in response to an Assembly Question from Foyle MLA Pat Ramsey.
