Peace Builders celebrate positive Cross Border Connections

PEACE building is well underway in the council areas of Ballymena, Ballymoney, Coleraine, Larne, Limavady and Moyle through the delivery of the £4.1 million PEACE III Phase 2 Action

Plan led by Coleraine Borough Council on behalf of the North East PEACE III Partnership.

By the end of 2013 the European Union will have made a substantial investment in peace building in the North East Cluster of Council’s through its considerable investment of £7.6 million.

The Partnership Development Project is funded under the European Union’s PEACE III Programme and is managed for the Special EU Programmes Body by the North East PEACE III Partnership.

As leaders of peace building across the North East area, the delivery of the Partnership Development Project is aimed at the members of the PEACE III Partnership.

The Project will assist the members in developing their peace building skills and will help them to critically examine the way in which the North East PEACE III strategy is delivered ensuring that it meets its aim of building positive relations at a local level.

This initiative is being delivered by Blu Zebra Ltd, a management consultancy with significant experience in leadership and peace building. T

The Project aims to build an effective Partnership delivery team as well as exploring a number of peace building concepts.

Topics being covered under the Project include further and more detailed exploration of partnership working for a shared society; dealing with hard issues including flags and emblems; the role of community planning for a shared society; good relations and community cohesion; the differences and complementarities between roles of civic and representative democracy; problem solving; cross sectoral integration work and mediation and negotiation.

Speaking about the Partnership Development Project the Chair of the North East PEACE III Partnership, William Adamson, said: “This Partnership Development Project will allow our members to review and examine their role in building peace in our local area. It is an exciting Project of reflection and development which will help us to grow and work more effectively as a team in the building of peace across the North East area and beyond”.
