Peace Group's Service of Thanksgiving

Causeway Coast Peace Group held their Annual Service of Thanksgiving recently in the Church of Ireland at Ballintoy.

Committee members welcomed Baroness May Blood MBE, who in turn was welcomed by the Rector Rev Patrick Barton. The Leader of the Peace Group, Eleanor Duff welcomed a large congregation of Peace Group members and friends.

The Service was conducted by the Rev Patrick Barton and Father Barney McCahery, who both lit the Peace Candle, and prayed together. Congregational praise was led by a choir of Peace Group members, and friends. The Lessons were read by Irene Green and Brian Bolt. An inspiring address was delivered by The Baroness, who told the congregation that peace must be personal. She referred to the murder of Jo Cox MP, who wanted to make the world a better place and because of her strong political views, died for them. The Baroness said: “Faith is risking what is, for what is yet to be. It is taking small steps knowing they lead to bigger ones, and it is believing all things are possible in the midst of impossibilities.”

Intercessions were led by Eleanor Duff and Maurice McCurdy, after which each person lit a candle from the Peace Candle, a commitmemnt to peace.
