Peace III project bids to promote good relations in coastal villages

A PROJECT aimed at promoting good relations within and between Carnlough and Glenarm villages was launched last week.

The North East Peace III Partnership unveiled the second phase of its Larne Community Cohesion Project at the Londonderry Arms in Carnlough.

Fittingly named the Glenlough Project, it is a joint initiative between the villages, delivered by Larne Borough Council, supported through the European Union’s Peace III programme and managed for the Special EU Programmes Body by the North East Partnership.

The aim is to deliver a programme of activities which will involve cooperation and joint working across a number of common themes including arts, culture, sports and peace-building. It will be open to all residents of Carnlough and Glenarm, with specific elements targeted at teenagers and young people.

Guest speaker Jonathan Hodge, from the North East Partnership, said: “It is a great opportunity to deliver a range of activities and events to help link the villages together and increase respect and understanding of a shared heritage. This exciting and innovative project will also increase community participation and improve the confidence and leadership qualities of the young people of Carnlough and Glenarm.”
