Congressman John Lewis says he is looking forward to his visit to Londonderry on Thursday.
On Thursday last, April 24, in the presence of Congressman John Lewis, the man who stood alongside Dr Martin Luther King 50 years ago during the march on Washington, a new peace building initiative was launched in First Derry Presbyterian Church.

A large roll of fabric mounted onto a customized mobile stand kindly donated by Hunter Apparel Solutions, Springtown dressed in a protective ‘skirt’ kindly designed and produced by Cummingham Covers, Maghera was unveiled during a visit, by the Washington Faith & Politics Institute, to the city.

The Roll of fabric was signed by Congressman Lewis, John Hume, Philomena McDermott Head of Children’s and Young Peoples’ Services at the Western Education and Library Board, and Reverend David Latimer.

The Roll will be transported around schools/colleges in the DCC area in a vehicle kindly sponsored by Desmond Motors, Strand Road. During the coming months pupils, across the entire WELB region, will progressively sign the scroll. This will permit pupils, who have the power to really change things, to set a new Guinness World Record for peace under the GWR category Most Signatures On A Scroll.
