Pearson set to return home to RVH Belfast

Pearson is said to be making ‘steady progress’, after he was left fighting for his life following a crash at the Horice Road Races in the Czech Republic on Sunday May 18.

He was moved out of the Intensive Care Unit in the Hradec Kralove Hospital last Saturday evening.

However, the 37-year-old underwent a five hour surgery on his lower back on Wednesday afternoon.

It was initially hoped that Pearson, who lives in Lisburn, would be able to return to the Royal Victoria Hospital, Belfast on Friday.

However, delays to his surgery mean it is likely to be the middle of next week before he is back in Northern Ireland.

He had been unable to travel until the surgery had taken place.

Meanwhile, a recovery fund has been set up for the local racer.

Pearson’s PR manager Willis Marshall, along with help from Kym-Louise Mulholland have opened the fund, which it is hoped will be able to provide funds for Michael on his road to recovery.

Willis Marshall commented: “It is hoped that Michael will be able to return to Northern Ireland in the next couple of weeks where he will be admitted to the Royal until his injuries can further heal.

“As you can guess, Michael will be out of work for sometime and will need a lot of attention until he can resume to normal activities.

“It is my aim to try and help ease the burden that will be put on Michael, and his wife Diane, in the next couple of months, by trying to raise some funds for them so that it will take a little of the stress and worry out of their lives in this period of recovery.”
