Speaking today, Ian McCrea MLA said: “I very much welcome confirmation from DUP Minister of Regional Development, Michelle McIlveen MLA, that the pedestrian crossing on William Street in Cookstown will be moved.

“Having raised the need for moving the pedestrian crossing from the Burn Road/William Street junction with Transport NI and the department, I am delighted that the Minister has confirmed that the crossing will be moved 10 metres along William Street from the Burn Road junction.

“I am more that aware of the difficulties that drivers have in getting out of the Burn Road, due to the crossing being so close to the junction and more importantly that people have been knocked down whilst crossing the road.

“Whilst I would like to have seen the pedestrian crossing moved further up the road, I think that this is a positive step forward in making the road safer for pedestrians and drivers alike.”
