Peer support project setting up for former members of security forces

THE Northern Ireland Phoenix Project is set to put in place a Peer Support Programme across Northern Ireland for former members of the security forces who served during The Troubles and their families – and who may feel socially isolated or feel they have issues they would like to share in a place that is safe and secure.

The PEACEIII funded programme, due to be launched on May 1, will be facilitated by well known Newlife Counselling and will follow a therapeutic process by a trained counsellor.

The Project Director, Samuel Atcheson, is very keen to hear from individuals within the Banbridge, Portadown, Dromore and Lisburn areas as to whether such a service is required in their area.

He said that where there is a group of at least six people, he will provide the service in the locality which will consist of sessions of one to two hours per month with the agenda set by the group. He also stressed that it would be a service where individuals or family members could ‘dip in and out’ as they felt necessary.
