Dan Alexandru Caciula, whose address was given as Craigwell Avenue, Portadown, was also fined £200 and ordered to pay a £15 offender’s levy.

The court was told that police saw a car being driven along the Brownstown Road in Portadown. The vehicle made a turn into a school entrance.

A check revealed that the policy of insurance on the car had been cancelled.

The defendant said he had been lifting his little sister from school and had not received anything to tell him that he did not have insurance.

If he had he would not have driven.

A solicitor representing the defendant said the insurance company had asked for further documentation and he did not fully understand.

He added that his client accepted he should have made inquiries but it was a legitimate mistake.
