Pensioner hit by car named as Brendan O'Connor

The 70 year old man who died after being struck by a car on the Culmore Road in Londonderry on Sunday night, February 21, has been named as James Brendan O'Connor.

Mr O’Connor was from the local area.

Police say his family have requested privacy at this difficult time and that they have asked the media to respect their wishes.

The fatal collision was reported to police shortly before 6.55pm.

Brendan O'Connor died following a road traffic collission on the Culmore Road.

The Culmore Road was temporarily closed and diversions put in place prior to it reopening to traffic on Monday morning.

Police investigating the circumstances of the collision are appealing for witnesses. The number to call 101.

A 43 year old man was arrested and questioned in connection with the fatal collision.

He was subsequently released on police bail pending further enquiries.
