Pensioner is tied up during burglary

Police are investigating a link between the two burglaries which took place on the Laurehill Road and Glenavy Road.

In the first incident at around 9.30pm four masked men, one armed with a screwdriver entered a house in the Laurelhill Road.

They threatened the family who were then locked in a room. The thieves made off with a number of items including a sum of money and jewellery.

The family, which consisted of a man and woman in their 50’s, a woman in her 20’s and a teenage male were left terrified but not injured. The woman in her 50’s was later treated for shock.

A number of hours later a man in his 70’s, who lives on the Glenavy Road was asleep in bed when he awoke to find two men armed with a suspected firearm in his room, at around 1am.

The resident was bound and locked in a room. The two men are believed to have made off without taking anything.

The man was not injured, but required medical treatment as he was left very shaken.

Alliance Lisburn South representative Amanda Grehan condemned those responsible.

She said: “It is disgraceful that a pensioner was tied up and locked in a room in his own house.

“People should not have to worry about this sort of thing happening.”

In a separate incident on Tuesday morning, burglars broke into a shop on the Belsize Road, and stole cigarettes.

Police would like to speak to the driver of a black Vauxhall Zafira seen in the area.

The PSNI are investigating a link between this incident and a burglary at business premises at the Skyline Drive, Lisburn area around 8.25am.

It is believed that a sum of money was taken from the premises in the area. Enquiries are continuing.
