Pensioner on sex charges is refused bail

A 72-year-old man charged with breaches of a sexual prevention order has been refused High Court bail, Banbridge Magistrates Court heard last Thursday.

Robert McComb, Daisy Hill Court, Ballyvally, Banbridge, appeared in court by way of videolink from Maghaberry prison. His solicitor confirmed he had been refused bail at the High Court on July 17.

A public prosecutor asked for an adjournment until August 6 when a date for a PE would be identified.

Speaking to McComb, who was seated in Maghaberry prison, District Judge, Mr Paul Copeland, told him on that occasion he would be given a date for a preliminary enquiry.

McComb is the subject of a Sexual Offences Prevention Order and faces four charges of alleged breaches of that order.

The first is alleged to have happened on June 3 this year at a play park on Banbridge Road, Laurencetown.

He is also accused of speaking with a number of children at Newry Street, Rathfriland, on June 4, being at a play park at Cline Road, Banbridge, on June 5 and approaching a child at Hillside Park, Ballyvally, on June 5.
