Pensioner plagued by weeds

The man, who did not wish to be named, said they have been left to grow for more than two years.

He claims he has been in contact with the Department for Regional Development a number of times, but all to no avail.

He said: “It has been in this state for two years now. The DRD have done it twice before, so it should be no problem with them doing it again.

“I’m a pensioner and I’m not fit to be doing this kind of work. It’s a disgrace that it has been left like this.”

He continued: “I have been in contact with them a number of times now. They keep telling me they are going to sort it out, but nothing happens.

“They do not come near me, no matter how many times I ring them.”

The man, who has lived in the house for six years, said he was concerned about the effect the weeds would have on the value of his house.

He said: “If I wanted to sell my house, it’s certain this would have an effect on the value of the property. I don’t think that’s a very fair situation.”

A DRD Roads Service spokesperson said: “Roads Service will investigate this report and clarify responsibility for the areas of deterrent paving along the frontage of the property, on which the weeds are growing, with the Northern Ireland Housing Executive to determine what action is appropriate in relation to weed control.”
