Pensioner robbed and injured - man charged

A man has been arrested by police in Ballymena after a woman in her 70s was robbed on Broughshane Street.

The incident happened at around 5pm on Monday, March 31. Officers arrested the 28-year-old two hours later and he was subsequently charged with robbery, assault on police and resisting arrest, a PSNI spokesperson stated.

The woman suffered cuts and bruising to her face and knees during the robbery but her injuries are not thought to be life threatening.

The spokesperson added that, as is usual procedure, all charges will be reviewed by the PPS.
