“We honestly couldn’t have asked for a more successful and enjoyable event,” said a Lurgan Against Racism spokesperson.
"In the middle of all the craic and competitive fun of the football, we didn’t talk too much about what the event was really about and what our group do but we didn’t have to. It was evident in everything that happened throughout the day in the good spirits, the solidarity, the kindness, and people lending a hand wherever it was needed.
"From the many players and teams who took part, to the supporters, visitors, information stalls and vendors, yesterday showed the very best of what our town has to offer.
"Lurgan people are decent people who want to live in an inclusive community, free from intimidation, violence, racism and sectarianism.
"We won't be further divided by vested interests who try to distract us with false narratives, fear and hatred. It was a reminder that there is far more that unites us than divides us and that we can create something genuinely positive when we come together.
"For our first event of this kind, the level of support was unbelievable.
"A massive thank you to everyone but a very special thank you to Seana McConville, Neal Halforty, Paul Kelly, and Oxford Sunnyside FC for everything you did to make yesterday happen. We couldn’t have done it without you. Here’s to the next one!”
