Abbey Centre McDonald’s reopens after ‘precautionary deep clean’

McDonald’s has confirmed its Abbey Centre branch was deep cleaned last night (August 11) after a member of staff tested positive for the coronavirus.

In a statement issued to this newspaper today (Wednesday), a McDonald’s spokesperson commented: “One employee has tested positive for Covid-19 from McDonald’s Abbey Centre restaurant.

“To date, no one else at the restaurant has been effected, but as an additional precautionary measure last night the restaurant was deep cleaned by an external cleaning company.

“The restaurant reopened this morning for Drive-thru customers.

“We have a number of safety measures in place to help keep our people safe, including perspex screens, temperature checks at the start of each shift, maintaining a 2-metre distance from others as much as possible, face coverings, regular hand washing and the use of hand sanitiser.”

A spokesperson for Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council stated: “The Public Health Agency are the lead organisation in the investigation of Covid-19 cases and it would be inappropriate for council to comment.

“Council staff continue to support the PHA in this role and support businesses achieve compliance with the regulations relating to social distancing requirements.”
