Alison McNamara: tribute to Kinallen resident who was 'driving force' behind FASD charity
Councillor Tim McClelland paid tribute to Alison McNamara, a Kinallen lady and the founder of charity ‘FASD Awareness NI’, at Monday night’s (December 15) ABC Council meeting.
The tireless fundraiser passed away suddenly last Saturday, December 13, at her home in Kinallen.
‘FASD’ stands for ‘Foetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders’, and the mother of two founded the community/lobbying group with her husband Brian to raise awareness of the dangers associated with alcohol consumption during pregnancy.
Mourning her loss are her husband Brian, children Reece and Jordan, parents Elaine and Arthur, and siblings Mark, Nikki, Vicki and Sarah.

Speaking at the council meeting, the DUP representative for Lagan River DEA commented: “I wish to speak very briefly on the passing of a lady called Alison McNamara, otherwise known as ‘Allie Mc’.
“Alison was born in Liverpool before settling in Northern Ireland within our own borough, here in Kinallen, and Alison was the driving force behind the setting up of an organisation known as FASD.
“Essentially, that organisation is about highlighting the dangers of consuming alcohol during pregnancy. I would ask that a letter of sympathy from yourself be sent to her husband Brian and her sons Reece and Jordan.”
Lord Mayor, Ald Stephen Moutray, indicated the request would be duly acted upon.
