Asda Larne Community Champion, Catherine McCallion, is helping the most vulnerable people in her local area through the provision of food donations to the service.

Catherine Lynas, Larne Foodbank administrator, said: “We cannot thank Catherine, her Asda Larne colleagues, and the general public enough – without their assistance we would not be able to support those who need it most.

“We have seen a significant rise in the need for our service – approximately 320 people have been helped since April 1 alone. All support is greatly appreciated, especially at this challenging time.”

Catherine McCallion added: “We are so pleased to have been able to provide this help in the community. Having worked alongside Larne Foodbank for quite a few years, I understand how vital these donations are. It is so important that we all come together and support each other – now more than ever.”

Meanwhile, Antrim Coast Lions Club runs a partnership with Larne Foodbank to provide emergency food aid.

The club has proudly supported the 'Lions Hero Shield Project' with a donation of £1000.

It follows a national effort to raise €100,000 that will enable clubs to acquire 200,000 visors. These will be distributed free of charge to HSE and An Garda Síochána personnel in the Republic of Ireland, along with NHS and PSNI staff in Northern Ireland.

Lions Clubs District Governor and long-standing member of Antrim Coast Lions Club, Bernard Black, said that the project enables Lion Clubs to make a "meaningful contribution to the battle against Covid-19 in Ireland."

As part of its Covid-19 response, Antrim Coast Lions Club is also coordinating with local clubs and groups in Carnlough and Glenarm to provide volunteers to assist and support vulnerable people in the community.
