Asda reminds shoppers to treat each other 'with respect'

Asda has issued a reminder to shoppers to treat each other with 'respect' after an incident in the Larne store.

It follows a local resident's claim that her mother was accused of 'panic buying' in the Redlands Road branch at the end of March.

"[My mum] was shopping for herself, as well as me and my husband. I’m a severe asthmatic and under the 12 week isolation order," said the resident, who did not wish to be named.

"My mum lifted two packets of toilet roll (one for me, one for her) when a woman came up behind her, grabbed her by the arm and called her disgusting in front of other shoppers.

"My mum explained that she was buying for others when thankfully some lovely Asda staff stepped in to support my mum. As she stood outside waiting for her lift, others walking in tutted at her for 'panic buying' and being selfish.

"People need to remember that there are people out buying for the elderly, vulnerable and sick as well as themselves and to have a bit of common sense."

Responding, a spokesperson for Asda said: "Our colleagues are doing everything possible to try and support customers during this time, but we need our customers to treat each other, and our team with respect. Under no circumstances do we tolerate violence towards colleagues or customers in our stores and we will work with the authorities where necessary."
