Bolt targets Donegal visit

Having confirmed his status as sports legend by retaining his 100m, 200m and 4 x 100m relay titles that he also won at the Beijing games four years ago, he has given his strongest indication yet he will travel to Donegal, the home county of his manager Ricky Simms and Irish Olympic team manger Patsy McGonagle.

Bolt said he has been discussing the matter with 38-year-old Simms and hopes to make over before too long.

He is the number one target for the guest of honour to open the new tartan track at Finn Valley AC and has previously recorded a video message for the clubs AGM last Christmas.

Former Royal and Prior student, Ricky Simms from Milford, is a qualified PE teacher turned sports manager who now has not one but two of the biggest names in world sport on his book following the London games.

Not only does he work with “Lightning” Bolt he also manges the double gold medallist Mo Farah, who has visited the county before and even took part in the annual Finn Valley AC 5km race two years ago.

Speaking about how he came to manage the world biggest track and field star, Ricky said the Jamaican was adamant he wanted the Milford man to look after his business off the track.

“The idea was that it would be more like a partnership. I though the best strategy for him was to bring in one of the biggest global sports management companies like IMG and Octagon who work with Tiger Woods.

“My philosophy is that we need to assemble a team around our athletes: coaching, medical support, PR managment, everything that the athlete needs.

“We have some partners who work with other athletes, so we did not try to do everything ourselves.

“When I presented this to Usain he said “No, Ricky, I want you to do this’,” he stated.
