Chris McConville, aged 21, has been missing the ‘Burn’ nightclub in Lurgan since the COVID-19 pandemic led to lockdown.

A regular at the popular spot at the town’s Ashburn Hotel, Chris admitted to secretly missing his weekends at the ‘Burn’.

With all the pubs and clubs closed, the Bleary man said: “Suppose someone had to do it. Severe boredom, box of coronas and a few hours later I made The Burn Night Club in Minecraft, because we all know what we secretly miss most.”

A former pupil at St Patricks Grammar School Armagh, Chris created the stunningly accurate video of the Burn from memory.

“I have been a regular at The Burn for what seems like a lifetime, basically from my 18th birthday.

“In Lurgan, The Burn is almost a rite of passage, and going to school in Armagh meant that at the weekends I could unwind with friends I had not seen in years from primary school and bring my friends from further afield to show them the spectacles Lurgan has to offer.

“It definitely holds some great memories for me,” said Chris who studies Business Economics at the University of Ulster.

“I did most of The Burn by memory, the general layout, the characteristic carpets and places like the outdoor area and cloakroom, but I admit I used some photos I had for small details like lights and paintings etc. as you would expect, a few messy Jager bombs does the memory no good!

“I used to play Minecraft years and years ago, probably from the ages of 10-16 or so but I slowly went off the game as I was simply growing out of it.”

Chris, who currently works in Asda in Portadown, said: “One of my friends I used to go to school with, recently re-created Ma Berry’s Bar in Portadown, as the proud local I am, I could not let Lurgan go unrepresented in this, so I thought “Here’s one for the Lurgan bies”,

“I honestly only meant it as a joke between a few friends and I uploaded it on the end of my work break. After about 4 hours or so of the video being on my Facebook page, I turned on my phone to discover it had absolutely blew up.

“My Dad went in to work the following day in Interface in Lurgan, and his workmates had seen the video in a Whatsapp group chat. It was insane.

“I think my greatest achievement in my life so far has been the shoutout The Burn gave me on their Facebook page, I think if I won the lottery tomorrow I would still be more excited at the fact that I made The Burn’s Facebook Page.”

Chris added: “On a more serious note I think the video actually resonated with a lot of people, ranging from younger people itching to get their social lives back to older people who maybe haven’t been to The Burn in years.

“It served as a kind of a throwback of sorts, which was really interesting to see. I’m just glad that some people might have got a bit of a laugh at this, especially during the stressful times we are all going through at the moment.”
