A call has been made for churches in NI to be reopened in a ‘safe and controlled’ manner.

Churches have been closed since lockdown with limited access for funerals.

Upper Bann MLA Jonathan Buckley said: “In line with relaxations to current restrictions, I believe it is now time to consider the acceleration of reopening our places of worship.

“Many churches can easily comply with social distancing and reduce numbers, and they should be afforded the same opportunity that many businesses now have to reopen in a limited capacity.

“In accordance with supporting medical advice, churches should be given the opportunity to gather once again in a safe and controlled manner.”
