Call for key worker scheme to allow care home visits

DUP MP Carla Lockhart has written to the Health Minister Robin Swann MLA asking him to follow the lead of England, by commissioning a pilot scheme allowing one family member to be designated as a key worker to allow regular testing and visits to relatives needing personal contact in care.

A pilot project was announced on Tuesday in England by the Care Minister Helen Whately MP and the Upper Bann representative has encouraged a similar pilotbe adopted in Northern Ireland.

Ms Lockhart said: “Throughout the course of the pandemic, it is heartbreaking that residents of our care homes have been deprived of the regular visits by relatives and loved ones.“
