Cathedral holds drive-in church

Lisburn Cathedral held its first drive-in church service recently at Lisburn Rugby Club, which attracted a large crowd with over 80 cars.

It was the first time the Cathedral community has been able to come together physically since March.

Rev Danielle McCullagh, curate in Lisburn Cathedral, said: “We have really missed the community aspect of church – the time we spend together in worship on Sunday and in fellowship throughout the week, so when the chance came for us to get together, we jumped at it!”

Danielle said that the drive-in church service had been made possible when the Club contacted Dean Sam Wright offering the use of its pitch for a service. “The club has been so helpful to us, setting up the facility and also providing stewards to help on the day,” Danielle said. “We’re very thankful for the opportunity and for the club’s support.”

The cathedral is already planning its second drive-in church service on July 26, when Connor Bishop-designate George Davison will be the preacher.

Kenny Millen the Rugby Club Chairman said the idea to set up the facility and offer it to all local churches was proposed by committee member Stephen Knowles. There was extensive support from members and the club says a big thank you to all those firms who offered their support, including Andy Gibb from ATG Electrical, Law Transport, Matthew Minford and his team from Forfey Ltd Event Company and Raymond Cullen & Sons who have been long time supporters of the club.
