Cherry trees planted in Merville

The trees have recently been planted and members of the Merville Owners’ Association wish to thank the local authority for the generous donation.

Commenting on the initiative, a spokesperson for the association said: “One of the Merville residents had been in contact with the ‘Sakura Cherry Tree Project’ regarding the 286 cherry trees within Merville.

“He was also in contact with Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council about the project. The council contacted McConnell’s Chartered Surveyors who brought the matter to the Owners’ Association.

“The trees have been planted throughout Merville and we tried to fill gaps in the cherry trees within Merville.”

Detailing the association’s responsibilities, the spokesperson added: “The main purpose of the Merville Owners’ Association is to act as a liaison between flat owners and McConnell Chartered Surveyors who act as agents to Ulster Garden Villages. There are two parts to our role.

“Firstly, the flats and a major refurbishment of the 15 blocks of flats within Merville. This includes cavity wall insulation, redoing blown plasterer and re-roofing and repainting the block. We have completed seven out of the 15, with work hopefully starting on another seven blocks in a couple of months.

“Secondly, the grounds within Merville. This is part of the remit why McConnell’s brought the matter to the committee and why we decided where the trees should be planted.”
