Volunteers from the Antrim CAP Debt Centre in conjunction with Ballyclare Presbyterian are helping their clients with support, encouragement and a friendly voice at the end of a phone.

This assistance has continued throughout the lockdown and will continue as restrictions ease.

They have also worked with the Trussell Trust foodbank and Fareshare, in a real show of community spirit at this time.

An army of volunteers, working within guidelines, has prepared food hampers which are distributed to vulnerable people.

Irene Kilpatrick, CAP Debt Centre manager, said: “We’re ensuring we follow all of the social distancing rules to stay safe but we’re still here to support our clients and others in need in the community.

“We’re offering support such as giving clients phone top ups - which are so necessary for connection in a world where meeting in person is limited - helping with food and prescription deliveries, all while continuing to help clients with their paperwork and progressing them towards managing debt.”

CAP added that its staff and volunteers are delivering essentials where needed and ensuring people who are locked in poverty have practical, emotional and spiritual support.

Irene continued: “We may all be in the same storm in this crisis, but we’re not all in the same boat. We’re committed to supporting our clients as they bravely face even more challenges than usual.”
