Christmas lights virtual switch-on

Public health concerns and Coronavirus restrictions mean that Mid and East Antrim Council (MEABC) will not be able to deliver the traditional Christmas Lights Switch-On events in towns and villages.

The Christmas lights will be switched on virtually in Ballymena on Thursday, November 19.

Mayor, Councillor Peter Johnston said: “Christmas will look different this year due to the need for us all to work together to protect the health of our community.

“While we are unable to hold events where people might gather in large numbers, we will still all be able to share in the magic of Christmas, albeit virtually and from the comfort of our own homes.”

Plans are also being finalised for three small outdoor Christmas markets in Ballymena, Larne and Carrickfergus over the festive period which are subject to Northern Ireland Executive restrictions and guidance.
