Co Antrim man scoops £20k prize after losing job due to coronavirus crisis

A Carrickfergus man who was left out of work due to the coronavirus crisis has reason to celebrate after winning £20,000 and a new car.

Steven Hamilton and his wife Elaine scooped the top prizes, including the brand new BMW e46 MW, thanks to dream car competition, BOTB.

Steven worked as an installer of pool tables and arcade games until the crisis hit and he was made unemployed at short notice.

The 48-year-old and his wife Elaine, who is working as a district nurse on the frontline, were stunned when he received a call from BOTB presenter Christian Williams to tell him he had won the car and the cash.

“I just could not believe it,” he said. “People here don’t win anything, and this could not have come at a better time for us.

“It was devastating to lose my job, and I know that is the case for a lot of people. What it means is that some of the financial worries I may have had have been lifted a bit, it will be such a huge help.

“Elaine is a district nurse and is on the frontline every day, and the last thing she needs is further worries like me being out of work throughout all of this.”

BOTB presenter Christian Williams surprises winners all over the world every week, although during coronavirus he will be doing surprises over Facetime, rather than visiting the winners on their doorsteps.
