Co Down motorbike tragedy victim Matthew Arnold a ‘young gentleman’

The motorcyclist killed in a Co Down road collision on Tuesday evening was a “young gentleman any mother and father would be more than proud of,” one friend has said.

Matthew Arnold, aged in his 20s, was killed when his machine was in collision with a car at the junction of the Lurgan Road and Blackskull Road in Dromore.

Mr Arnold was married with a baby daughter. He lived in Donacloney.

The incident – involving the motorcycle and a silver Toyota Avensis – occurred around 6.30pm and the PSNI are appealing for any witnesses to contact police.

In an emotive Facebook tribute, one friend said: “Absolutely devastated for [Matthew’s wife] Ciara, their baby daughter and the whole family circle.

“Such a young gentleman any mother and father would be more than proud of. And Ciara was blessed to have him as her best friend and husband.”

Another friend said she was “so blessed to have known him.”

Ciara replied with the message: “My angel” and a broken heart emoji.

Inspector Adam Ruston said: “I am appealing for witnesses to contact police.

“I would also like to hear from anyone who may have captured mobile phone or dashcam footage that could assist the investigation.”

Insp Ruston added: “Please call 101, quoting reference 1313 07/04/20.”
