An international development charity has thanked the people of Portadown for their support last year.

Portadown man Peter Anderson, who is NI Director of Concern Worldwide, said: “We have all been affected by Covid-19, but experiences of the pandemic differ from family to family and from country to country.

“For the world’s poorest communities, the economic impact of the crisis has been catastrophic - leaving millions more facing hunger and extreme poverty.

“Yet, after a year when many of us have struggled in one way or another, the generosity of people in Portadown to support Concern’s work with the most vulnerable has shone through.

“Despite our own difficult circumstances in this part of the world, we have seen how local individual supporters, fundraisers, businesses, schools, community groups and volunteers have rallied together, dug deep and stood up for the world’s poorest.

“That incredible generosity has been a light in the darkness and gloom. It has brought hope to the thousands of vulnerable people we work alongside every day - keeping health and nutrition clinics open, delivering emergency food and life-saving supplies, and helping to restore lost livelihoods.

“I would like to thank the people of Portadown and acknowledge how valued their contribution has been in providing a lifeline for the world’s poorest in such uncertain times.”
