Conleth’s ‘Proud of our NHS’ rockets up the music charts

A song by an NI musician, remixed in aid of the NHS, has rocketed up the charts, just days after its release.

Proud (of our NHS), written and sang by Co Armagh man, Conleth Kane, has already reached number 13 in iTunes Singer Songwriter chart.

The Lurgan man is in lockdown in London having missed out on releasing his debut EP because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Conleth had been planning a series of concerts, appearances, festivals and gigs throughout April and into the summer but they were cancelled due to the Coronavirus crisis.

So he decided to rework the song Proud, after an inspirational call from his friend John, a nurse in a nearby London hospital and one of Conleth’s legion of fans.

“I wanted to get creative in lockdown in London and do my my bit, so I decided to rework my song ‘Proud’ and make it ‘Proud (of our NHS),” he said.

He released it on Saturday and already it is flying up the charts.

Conleth revealed that he was able to remix the song as his housemate Chris is a sound engineer.

“We recorded the song together and I filmed the music video on my iphone.

“It is currently sitting at number 13 on the itunes Singer/Songwriter charts,” said Conleth who is donating money from the single to NHS charities and The Rainbow Project.

Thousands have alreaday viewed his video via Facebook and he hopes the song will get loads of downloads after it premiers on radio on Tuesday (International Nurses Day).

“John wouldn’t miss a performance of mine so now it’s my turn to support him,” said Conleth who praised his Lurgan frien Dec Lan on guitar, Chris Hewitt for producing and Chad Edwards for the single artwork.

Conleth said he was devastated when the lockdown began as years of work on his music and careers started to shut down with phone call after email cancelling events he was due to take part in.

But he dusted himself down and decided he had to do something to help out during the crisis and remixing the Proud single has enlivened his creative side.

“There were a few days of devastation before I realised how grateful I should be to have my famly and friends.

“It has given me purpose and I’m also able to be creative again,” he said.
