Coronavirus: Co Antrim school closed after pupil tests positive

An ‘enhanced clean’ is being conducted at St Killian’s College, Ballymena, after a senior pupil tested positive with Covid-19.

In a statement issued to the Larne Times today (Friday), Principal of St Killian’s Jonny Brady said: “Following a confirmed case of Covid in Year 13 we took the decision to close the school on Thursday, October 1 and Friday, October 2.

“During this time staff uploaded teaching online so learning was not impacted.

“Following advice from the PHA all pupils in close contact have been sent home to isolate for 14 days. During this time they will continue their classes by remote learning.

“The welfare of our staff, pupils and wider school community is paramount so this is not a decision which has been taken lightly.

“The school will undergo an enhanced clean and will re-open to all year groups again on Monday, October 5.”
