The Health Committee Deputy Chair welcomed the “true community spirit on display across South Antrim and further afield in light of the coronavirus situation.”

She added: “This situation is difficult for everyone. As a public representative, I want to thank those in community groups and churches who have responded to the needs of the community and are preparing to help out where they can in collecting essential shopping, prescriptions and even simply giving a call to those who feel isolated.

“I’ve seen great work being carried out by the Foodbanks, Good Morning projects, ‘Together for Ballyclare’ group, Journey Church in Antrim, Steeple Ladies Initiative, Ballyduff community group and virtually every village community group throughout South Antrim to name just a few.

“There are also countless individuals who have been looking out for their next door neighbours, family and friends. To those volunteering at this time, I’d urge that you continue to take all precautions necessary to protect yourself and those you are helping. It is vital we maintain social distancing measures, only travel when necessary and self isolate if symptoms are displayed.

“The growing sense of hope, care and determination on display should give great confidence to us all that we shall see this through. I urge the public to continue following the expert guidance, remain positive and look forward to this dark period in our history coming to an end soon.”
