Couple go extra mile for NSPCC

Lisburn couple, Paul Stephenson, 53, and his wife Phyllis Stephenson, 49, have both been employed by the NSPCC in Northern Ireland for almost 40 years between them and they wanted to make a difference to the charity during this difficult time.

Phyllis has worked for the NSPCC for over 20 years, currently as an Education Advisor, developing services for schools to safeguard children and Paul has worked for the NSPCC’s Child Protection in Sport Unit for 18 years.

Paul explained: “Everyone in my CPSU team at NSPCC understands the impact of the pandemic on children’s health and wellbeing.

“We wanted to demonstrate support to our colleagues while fundraising to help maintain the services to ensure there is always someone available to talk to children who need help.”

Phyllis and Paul are enjoying setting time aside to start running again and also being able to walk around Duncan’s Dam, which is near their home.

Phyllis said: “The walking is lovely and it’s good to have some time to ourselves but the running is more of a challenge – a bit tough on the knees.

“However, we’re so lucky to have such a beautiful setting right on our doorstep.”
