Dedicated website launched to support Newtownabbey veterans

Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council has set up a dedicated website signposting veterans to the support available to them and their families.

The council want to highlight the numerous services on hand to offer support and guidance to all former service personnel.

Many veterans do not seek the help available to them, however the local authority hopes that any stigma attached to asking for help can be removed.

Working closely with the Veterans’ Commissioner for Northern Ireland, Danny Kinahan and The Northern Ireland Veterans’ Support Office, the council have put together a support page which includes everything from health and wellbeing to financial support.

Mayor of Antrim and Newtownabbey, Cllr Jim Montgomery said: “I am proud the Ccouncil is supporting our veterans and I hope that the dedicated website will help many of the former servicemen and women living in our borough.

“The website has been designed as a one stop for all, helping veterans find the support they need under one umbrella. I look forward to developing this support service and working with many of the services in the future.”

Veterans’ Commissioner for Northern Ireland Danny Kinahan added: “Antrim and Newtownabbey Council have shown great support for our veterans to which I am truly grateful and I look forward to working closely with them in the future.

“Recently I have written to all veterans living in Northern Ireland offering my help and support and I am delighted to advise that the website for the NI Veterans Commissioner’s Office is also now live www.nivco.co.uk and I would encourage all veterans to visit the site.”

Mr Kinahan was appointed the first Veterans’ Commissioner for Northern Ireland last year.
