East Antrim reservoir closed after crowds gather to ‘enjoy snowfall’

Killylane Reservoir in east Antrim has been closed due to health and safety concerns after large numbers of visitors gathered at the facility over recent days to “enjoy the snowfall.”

Detailing the closure, a spokesperson for Northern Ireland Water said: “There has been a high number of visitors to Killylane enjoying the snowfall in the last number of days.

“Unfortunately, in the interests of public health and safety and Covid compliance we have to close the site to public access.

“We will continue to monitor the site conditions and advise as soon as it is deemed safe to reopen.”

The Larne Times reported last summer that anti-social behaviour, including the use of quad bikes, had occurred at the site.
