Emma crowned Learner of the Year

Emma McGladdery selected Occupational Studies as a GCSE option in Year 11. New-Bridge offers Occupational studies in collaboration with the Southern Regional College Newry and it has proven to be a most successful progression route.

Emma chose to study TV & Film Production and Sound Production within the area of Technology and Innovation. We are proud to say Emma was selected from hundreds of students across Northern Ireland studying this qualification.

Emma has continued her studies at Southern Regional College in the field of Media and hopes to pursue a career in TV & Film Production.

Reflectind on her Occupational Studies experience, Emma said: “When I was in year 11 and 12 at New-Bridge I was given the opportunity to study Occupational Studies at Newry SRC.

“In my first year, I chose Hair and Beauty and although it was never the career route I wanted to go down, it was a great learning curve for me as I gained new skills and tried something I had never done before.

“In year 12 I chose TV/Film Production and Sound Production. I am extremely grateful I was given the opportunity to study these two individual subjects at GCSE level.

“I really enjoyed this course and it even gave me the chance to write, direct and edit my own short film and learn all about the world of media.

“Receiving the Learner of the Year award all comes down to the incredible support I received from the staff at New-Bridge and my Tutor at SRC.

“I would encourage everyone who is given the opportunity to study Occupational Studies as there are so many units to choose from.

“Occupational Studies has allowed me to progress to studying a full time Level 3 Media course at SRC and I hope to pursue a University degree in TV and Film Studies”.

Emma’s parents also commented: “We are extremely proud of what Emma has achieved despite many challenges over the years and we could like to extend our appreciation to the staff at New-Bridge and SRC who provided so much support for Emma over the last few years.”
