Ex principal Ken (85) and wife Sandra raise £7k for charities after 1km walk

Ken Turner (85) who has Parkinson’s Disease and his wife Sandra have raised a whopping £7,000 for charity after an arduous 1km walk close to his Portadown home.

Mr Turner, a former head at Portadown College’s Preparatory Department, uses a walking aid due to his Parkinson’s Disease but managed two laps around the Eniscrone Park neighbourhood.

His wife Sandra said she is astounded by the large amount raised.

She said: “Every household gave and we thought we might be lucky to get £100.

“A lot of donations came via post. It scared the life out of me how much was arriving,” said Sandra who enlisted the help of a family friend Dr Alan Turtle in Richhill to help organise a bank account for the charity funds.

The money raised will be donated to the Parkinson’s Association, Craigavon Hospital and Ann’s Home Care who help look after Ken who is a former rugby player.

Sandra said: “I would like to thank everyone who came to support Ken, with social distancing, and everyone who has donated.
